The Village Smithy opened in Troy, Indiana in 1995 after moving from Florida where Ralph operated an ornamental iron shop for sixteen years. Originally from this area, Ralph was suprised at the growth of quality homebuilding that had taken place over the years of his absence. It did not take long for the residents of the area to find out about Ralph's talents. Within two months after opening his shop, a local newspaper caught wind of a new craftsman that had located in the area. A full page spread was published telling of the unique creations emanating from his small shop. The response was overwhelming. Soon Ralph realized that expansion was necessary. Within the first eight months of business, plans were made to enlarge the building that he was working in. Before the year was out his building was enlarged to house a new paint booth and storage area. In the future, another addition is planned include an aluminum and brass foundry for short run custom items.
